The Most Expensive Dress

Epigraph

On the ramp of life, true beauty is not the shade of skin nor the shine on the outside, but the light that radiates from within.

The Most Expensive Dress

All walks the ramp, each shade on display,
Black, brown, white, and yellow, colors in a sway.
Some shimmer like silk, some glimmer like gold,

Is the outer glow that all hearts behold?
Destitute by fate—what causes this radiance?
What money can’t buy; purity shines on face,

Yet, judged by skin—what a disgrace!

The prompt for Poets and storytellers United is "We will invite you to find inspiration in this quote: “The most expensive garment you’ll ever own is your own flesh.”

  1. Skin is just one very thin part of the flesh that makes us whole, and yet too many people act like that's all there is. I think you did just fine with the prompt.

    1. Many thanks Rommy for your time and comment. Skin is our first line of defence to the big, bad world outside but instead it has become our first introduction and sometimes the only identity to the outer world.

    1. Thanks for leaving such encouraging words and inviting me to enjoy your paintings.
loved the paintings - clean, harmonious and left for the interpretation of the viewer while leaving enough hints for guiding the thoughts. Thanks for sharing.

  3. You remind me of the saying I was brought up on, 'Beauty is only skin deep.' Of course, as a young girl I imagined that being told this meant I was not beautiful. I thought it was being said to me in consolation for my ugliness! It takes maturity to realise that inner beauty – or character – is what matters regardless of the outside veneer.

    1. It is immature to judge and play with wedges and ignoring all that matters. In a world where the struggle is to find the meaning and purpose - sapiens seeks to control and dominate others. Instead of focusing on what made us succeed as a species some exert all their efforts to find and exaggerate the differences.

  5. Too bad we place so much value on beauty?

    1. That is very sad - most of the time this is the first filter for all form of human to human interactions.

  6. Sadly, so many judgements are made purely on the colour and texture of the skin.

    1. Maybe, one day more people will be "appearance neutral".

  7. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, someone said.
