When The World Lowers Its Voice

When The World Lowers Its Voice

Life is not for us to control.
We don’t choose
whether there will be quiet—
or company.

It isn’t easy being a man.
A caring husband.
A loving father.
A productive worker.
Sometimes,
a traveler to faraway lands.

In my homeland,
I chase the light.
I cherish each moment
that makes up the day.

When I am alone,
the night belongs to me.

Because the day—
has been sold
for a few dollars more.

At night,
thoughts arrive
without urgency.

Silence sits beside me.
It does not judge me
when—

I am the writer.
The poet.
The artist.
The philosopher too.

The world lowers its voice.
So do I.

And nothing asks me
who I am,
or what
I should become.

  2. Thanks for your comments. The women are taking care of the other aspects in any case.

  3. More of us seem to find that night is the time when "thoughts arrive without urgency," and all seem to agree that that's the best time of day (or night).

    1. Very true, I feel pity for those who sleep at 9 p.m.

  4. Yes night is precious and yours. Dont suppose women get to enjoy this too much in your culture. Of course times have changed and maybe that is not the case anymore.

  5. Beautifully written. When "the day has been sold", expectations can be draining. Indeed, there's a sense of peace and relief when alone in the night not needing to please anyone.

  12. Wow… this is beautifully raw and powerful. ✨ I love how it captures that quiet, introspective space where identity and expectation fade, leaving just the self in its purest form. The rhythm and line breaks make each thought linger, like the world itself is holding its breath with you. Truly evocative — I can feel the weight and freedom in every word.
