Internet is a great leveler

Would you agree that "Internet is a great leveler?" Probably you do not have much of a choice! The proliferation of the Internet has created an environment where anyone can reap the benefits of the opportunities provided by globalization.

There are no “barriers” anymore as anyone from anywhere can start with an online business without geographical considerations. The only requirement is expertise in the core area and a great business model. On the other hand everyone can refer to reviews and recommendation and make informed decision.

The internet unarguably is the game changer but limited to internet in many regions is a cause for concern.

Traditionally for a business, promoting the product or services to the world has been a challenge. Now “Digital Marketing” has opened up the horizon to everyone who had dreams of advertising. It’s affordable, it's easy and potential customers could be reached through targeted campaigns via social media.

Skeptics like me would refer to this particular dialogue from Shakespeare’s “Merchant of Venice”.

"If to do were as easy as to know what were good to do, chapels had been churches and poor men’s cottages princes' palaces."

However, this doesn't mean that one shouldn't try, but be cautions that it will not be easy. Potential customers will invariably head online for review and ratings. They will research and compare shops before they make any buying decision. A home business will therefore be compared and measured against the highest standard.

So the secret is to  do is to find ways to build great relationships with online customers and let them know they are appreciated and the relationship is valued.

    Undoubtedly! I reckon internet is one of the most amazing advancements technology has brought in the recent past. The concept of connected world opens up possibilities to do international business right at your doorstep. With such small barriers to entry, it is really easy for anyone and everyone to make use of it, also making it challenging to stand out when the competition is high. I suppose with every great invention, there is a sufficiently daunting challenges. There are always tradeoffs, but this is a good challenge to work through.

A couple of weeks back I took a break of 10 days and went to Kolkata. It was a great feeling to be back and spend some time with the family after a solitary stint here. We took a step to further enhance the experience and made a dash to Agartala, the place where we spend our childhood days. These are very hot this summer days here in Doha. The mercury has been soaring very high. I have recorded 50 degrees twice during the last two months or so. Since my Mitsubishi is carrying me without any complaint in this rough weather, I thought she was due for some well deserved therapeutic treatment this morning. This morning I took my mate for a bath. There are not many places around here where you have this facility. Not many that we am aware of. I am probably right as even on the unholy hour of 7:30 am in a weekend morning I had to queue up behind 2 cars to have my turn. Even after reaching my turn, it is a considerable amount of time to wait as it is quite a task to get her cleaned inside out. I wish I could use the tag line …” choose your school teacher with caution ”. The reality is that we rarely get an option to select our school, let alone who would teach us. A student has to write the answer exactly as teacher did or follow the steps of mathematics with precision to avoid deduction of marks. In such a system, a teacher has very little to contribute as the requirement is to repeat the same stuff year after year to a new set of students. This most certainly deters the bright minds from joining the profession.  The personality traits of the teachers leaves a lasting impression on the student's life but the teaching hardly does.  To inspire brighter individuals into the teaching profession, the profession itself has to be more innovative rejecting the “one size fit all” approach .
